Hello Everyone,

In my last blog post I was able to show you the beautiful quilt that Stephanie made for me in our little swap. Now I would like to share with you the quilt I made for her and a little bit about the process.

Knowing how much Stephanie loves dresdens, I knew that I had to make her a quilt with some form of a dresden. I also knew that she loves green and super cute fabric too. This is when the light bulb above my head turned on.

Also, I wanted to add some very elegant quilting and feathers was just the thing. I used a variegated lime green thread. It may not look variegated, but it is monochromatic going from various shades of one color.

Simple quilting in the chevron dresdens was all that was needed.

A closer look at the feathers. Now a little about the process of the dresdens.

First you begin by making two strip sets that are identical, but reversed in fabric order. I chose to make my strips varying widths too for more interest.

Then the special tool comes into play, the 9 degree Circle Wedge Ruler. I don't sell it in my shop, but you can find it here. I had first seen this ruler several years ago and picked it up because I wanted to make a Christmas Tree skirt. Have I made the skirt yet? No. But this ruler is quite large and oh so versatile.

You must make your first angled cut and then cut your first wedge.

Then turn your ruler around and make your second cut and repeat.

You will end up with two pieces like this and eventually a full circle! Depending on how large your strip set is will affect how large your finished circle will become. It is really fun and you have so many design options.

Here you can see how I was auditioning for the final quilt. It was a lot of fun to make for Stephanie. I enjoyed using this tool and hope, just maybe, to make a tree skirt this year... maybe.

***New Batiks were added to the shop yesterday, just in time for the $7.50 per yard sale ending 4/1/11. Click here to see them.***

Until Next Time...
