Don't you just love being able to look at your photos? I do, and it is wonderful to be able to go back and look at projects from the past and see how they have evolved over time. In my new book Splash of Color I have a design called Lava Lamps. It was the first quilt that I made for the book and also quite possibly my most favorite.
In 2009, I created a little mini quilt with the same blocks (units) and it looks similar, but yet by simply repositioning where you put the fabrics (black and white) it gives a different design.
I look at the fabrics in this and fall in love. I am a collector, a collector of black and white fabrics. This particular collection is of black and white fabrics with dots and spots with "splashes of color". Can you see how if you just swap out a black one for a white one or vice versa, how it alters the design?
Here is a better look. See the two units... just by simply swapping the colors really would change the design. That is what I like about this block! You can make it yours!
Fast forward to 2015, here is Lava Lamps! Some of the same fabrics were used in this quilt, but just by placing in different positions it has a different look from the quilt from 2009. Isn't it fun? You can design your own version of Lava Lamps!
I would love to see what you would make. So much so, I have created a FaceBook Group just for that. There are many members now and it is growing daily. All these individuals will be creating one of the designs from the book and making it their own! I am so excited to see what people will make.
If you would like to join in on the fun, just click here. We would love to see what you might make! To purchase a signed copy of my book click here. Or you can purchase it on Amazon, Martingale, or your local quilt shop.
I am excited to see how you create this design or any other in the book!
Until Next Time...
