Hello Everyone,
Welcome to Day Five of The Reclaimed West Blog Tour! My name is Jackie Kunkel and I am the owner of
Canton Village Quilt Works a Certified Judy Niemeyer Shop and I am also a Certified Judy Niemeyer Instructor. I also am a designer who has been designing for fabric companies and magazines for 6 years and have my first book coming out next year!
When I was asked by
Timeless Treasures and
Judy Niemeyer to be part of this blog tour, I answered immediately with a YES!! It was a chance to design with Judy and Judel's new fabric line! How could I refuse? But, I also get to offer my readers a fantastic giveaway too! Oh and we DO have the fabric in, but are waiting to put it up on the site as we will be kitting it in one of Judy's very popular patterns... you will see it at the end of this blog post.
Let's begin.... I designed a little table topper while I was away on retreat. It is a sort of modern take on The Reclaimed West Collection, I call it Four Squared.
Start with 16 - 5 inch squares, four of each color.
Then 2 - 3/4 inch strips of black fabric.
I stacked the 5 inch squares and then cut them slightly off center at an angle.
So they look like this.
Now sew the left half onto the strips of black. Clip apart when done.
Press towards the black strip. You will end up with pieces that look like this. You will now sew the right half to the left half.
Once that is done, press towards the right half. Then square up the block to 4 1/2 inches, by trimming on all four sides.
Now you will piece in the cornerstones and sashing. You will need 4 - 1 1/2 inch black squares and 16 - 4 1/2 inch X 1 1/2 inch rectangles. Join them to the squares as shown in the layout below, to yield 4 (9 patch) blocks.
Once you have these 4 sections done you will make the sashing and the borders from 2 1/2 inch strips to create the table topper, Four Squared.
Once it is done, quilt as desired! I need to quilt mine and I will definitely show you a photo when it is done. If you make one, please send me a photo! I would love to see it!
Also, while on retreat, I made the Braided Table Runner by Judy Niemeyer. This was fast and easy and only takes ONE charm pack!
And guess what I am giving away the pattern. The pattern IS also be available on our site here.
It looks nice on my table, don't you think?
Even with a little center decor too. Now to quilt it!
But this is not the only giveaway, keep reading there is more...
Oh, but before I forget this is the pattern that we will be kitting in the Reclaimed West Fabric...
The Prairie Star. Isn't is AWESOME in these fabrics. Oh yeah... there are batiks that Judy and Judel designed that are coordinated with the fabrics in this collection. They are in this quilt too!
