Hello Everyone,
I finally feel I am back to a "normal" schedule. Whatever normal actually is, right? I am home and feel like I am getting things accomplished. It is great to be home with my hubby! You are probably wondering where I was.... I was traveling and teaching in Arizona, NJ, and then hosted a quilting retreat for a week. Whew!
During the quilting retreat, it was a bring your own project, including me! So, I was able to work on a project that I had been planning, the Vintage Compass. You can find the pattern by clicking here. We will have this kit available soon too!
I began selecting my fabrics for the quilt by making a swatch card or page. If you do this, it helps immensely for keeping your fabrics in order and acting as a reference throughout the process of your piecing. I try to do this with every project and it really does help keep things straight. In this quilt, I have a mixture of prints, batiks, and Kona Cotton Solids.
Here is the center compass star. So far I LOVE how it is turning out. The black batik serves as a great backdrop to make the colors really POP!
The second round of the star is done with Kona and a turquoise batik. You can now see the background fabric which was really my inspiration! I LOVED this and just started pulling colors from it to create the entire quilt. This fabric will be available in our online store, as a stand alone once all the kits are cut.
At the retreat, my friend Deb had brought along fleece to put up as a design wall. Guess what? It was right behind my sewing machine. I was able to get the pieces up on the wall with the background and am really loving watching it grow!
All four wedges are done and now onto the border. Can you see why I LOVE this? The pink star makes me smile!
Half of the "S" border is on. Can you imagine leaving the quilt like this? It would be a pain to bind. But, alas, I will be adding more to make the border square.
There, now that is better and really makes the quilt just sing!! Bright and beautiful that is what I like!! Now to quilt it...
On the long arm today. Very excited to get it quilted and bound. This is heading to Arizona where it will hang in A Quilter's Oasis in Mesa. I am teaching this class there in February and would love to see you there! If you can't make it there, I will be teaching this in my studio and in other locations. Just be sure to check here and here to see my schedule.
